Magnify the Lord – Psalm 34

How can you make God happy?

A man was driving on a toll road, and as he approached a toll booth, it seemed that God was saying, “Tell her about Me!” He felt foolish and a little embarrassed, but as he gave the toll collector his money, he said, “Jesus is the hope for the world!” She immediately replied, “He sure is, isn’t He! Have a nice day.” Evidently she was also a believer. As he continued driving, he wondered, “Why did God want me to tell another believer that He is the hope of the world?” If it had been an unbeliever, he could understand the reason, but why her?

He finally realized—God just wanted him to be obedient. God also wants you to be obedient, even if you don’t understand the reason and in spite of any fears you may have. “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (v. 4). Obedience is evidence of your love for the Lord. Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Make a commitment to yourself that you will always try to make Him happy by being obedient!

You also make Him happy by praising Him. “I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth” (v. 1). He is happy when He hears you praising Him, even though your circumstances may be unpleasant. “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20).

You also make God happy when you seek Him. Seek His presence with you, His guidance for you, and His purpose for your life. “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (v. 4). As you seek Him, you will make Him happy, and you will receive many blessings for yourself.

“O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together” (v. 3).
