If That Isn’t Love – Psalm 54
What is the best way to demonstrate love?
A young man was at the beach when he heard someone yelling, “Save me! Save me!” He saw a young lady struggling and about to drown. He immediately swam out to rescue her. He was able to “save” her; however, he did not make it back to shore. He died to save her.
The young man was an American missionary, and the young lady was Japanese. He was in Japan to teach people that the Lord Jesus Christ loved them so much that He gave His life to save them and give them eternal life. He probably taught more by the action of giving his life than he ever could have taught with words.
The young lady who almost drowned and her parents were at the young man’s funeral. During the service, one of his friends sang “If That Isn’t Love.” The girl and her parents may not have understood why the young man gave his life to her. Hopefully they understood that Jesus loved them even more than the young man did and gave His life to save them eternally.
If you have not been saved, cry out, “Save me, O God” (v. 1), and He will hear your prayer.
At the close of the funeral, the girl who almost drowned and her parents went to the casket and placed flowers on it. Only God knows what they were thinking in their hearts.
How can you express gratefulness to the Lord for saving you? Consider David’s suggestion,
“I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good. For he hath delivered me out of all trouble” (vv. 6, 7).
