Allow God to Bear Your Burden – Psalm 55
Ever feel like running away from everything?
Everyone has times when it seems like life is unbearable. Consider how King David described his feelings, “My heart is sore pained . . . the terrors of death are fallen upon me . . . horror hath overwhelmed me” (vv. 4, 5). He was so burdened down that he wrote, “Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest” (v. 6).
You may think you are in a worse situation than David was. It really doesn’t matter to God how heavy your burdens are. He is gracious, and He will either lift your burden, or He will give you special grace to joyfully bear it. Talk to him about the things in your heart that are weighing you down, and trust Him to work out what is best for you. Oscar Eliason’s words sum it up:
Got any rivers you think are uncrossable?
Got any mountains you can’t tunnel through?
God specializes in things thought impossible.
He does the things others cannot do.
“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved” (v. 22).
This is sometimes easier said than it is done. When you feel loaded down, the major difficulty that you will experience is that Satan will do his best to convince you that God does not really care about you. When this happens, you will have to make a decision. Who are you going to trust? Do as King David did—make a determined decision and cry out to God, “I will trust in thee” (v. 23).
